The key functions of the Staff Accountant will be responsible for ensuring timely and accurate completion of processing monthly union dues and benefits, and assist with the weekly, monthly, quarterly and year-end reporting requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepare payments for union dues and benefits for numerous unions across the country and ensure union payments are calculated correctly.
  • Prepare and perform monthly reconciliations of union related balance sheet accounts.
  • Prepare and update a sufficient audit trial of payments made to the union including detail YTD remittance files reconciling to the check or ACH payments recorded within the accounting system.
  • Liaise with the HR department for timely updates on union employee statuses
  • Perform frequent reviews of union employee status as noted within the HR master file
  • Act as main union contact and address day to day queries and concerns that may arise
  • Assist with month-end close including financial statements
  • Assist with ad-hoc accounting projects and initiatives with other members of the accounting and finance team or with other departments

Knowledge and Skill Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting; Master’s degree preferred
  • Active CPA license or on track to become a CPA
  • One to two years of progressively responsible accounting experience. Experience can include public accounting and/or corporate accounting management for a company in a role managing external financial reporting, accounting policy, general ledger and other key accounting functions (i.e. accounts receivable, accounts payable, accounting systems)
  • Strong technical accounting skills including knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
  • Advanced skills in excel
